Establishment
The Cemetery on Marrowstone Island has been in existence more than one and a quarter centuries. Land was platted and set aside by early settlers in 1895 on the east side of Marrowstone Island for burials of deceased residents of the township of Nordland, WA. First known burials began in 1899 and continue to this day. More land was donated to enlarge the Cemetery until a total of 6 parcels of land were ultimately combined prior to 1985 to create the approximately 1.34-acre Sound View Cemetery of today.
Key Dates of Establishment
Various committees were established by the Nordland community to develop and maintain the island, Including oversight and improvement of the Cemetery.
Cemetery Committee
The Cemetery is comprised of 705 plots suitable for casket and/or urn interment with approximately 160 burial plots available for sale.

Committee members are volunteers who are elected by the Marrowstone Island Community Association (MICA), a not-for-profit WA Corporation. They operate under the direction of the MICA Board of Directors and in accordance with established bylaws.
