Sound View Cemetery Marrowstone Island

History

Establishment

The Cemetery on Marrowstone Island has been in existence more than one and a quarter centuries. Land was platted and set aside by early settlers in 1895 on the east side of Marrowstone Island for burials of deceased residents of the township of Nordland, WA.  First known burials began in 1899 and continue to this day. More land was donated to enlarge the Cemetery until a total of 6 parcels of land were ultimately combined prior to 1985 to create the approximately 1.34-acre Sound View Cemetery of today.
